LA probation officer faces sex charges
LOS ANGELES, (UPI) -- A former Los Angeles County probation officer has been charged with having a sexual affair with a teenage girl from the juvenile camp where he worked.
Jeffrey Eckler, 50, was charged with eight counts, including burglary and meeting with a minor for lewd purposes stemming from an alleged rendezvous with a 16-year-old at a Palmdale motel last year, prosecutors announced Friday.
The Los Angeles Times said Eckler, who was terminated prior to being charged, is the latest is a string of probation officers to run into trouble for alleged inappropriate conduct. The newspaper said Saturday that its earlier investigative report found 11 cases of agency officers being charged or disciplined along with a backlog of similar allegations still under investigation.
The case against Eckler began when sheriff's deputies stopped the girl near the motel and found drugs in her backpack. She took the deputies to the motel where Eckler was allegedly waiting for her.
