Mountie in custody after wife's death
EDMONTON, Alberta, (UPI) -- A Royal Canadian Mounted Police constable was in custody after his wife was founded dead in their Edmonton, Alberta, home Saturday, authorities said.

The Edmonton Journal reported the 36-year-old Mountie, who was arrested at another location, had not been charged but the RCMP described his wife's death as a homicide.

Police were sent to the couple's home after reports of shots being fired, Alberta Serious Incident Response Team Executive Director Clifton Purvis said.

RCMP Assistant Commissioner Peter Hourihan said the department was "deeply saddened by the event," which he called "a tragic situation."

The Journal reported the couple's neighbors said they have two young sons and had lived in the neighborhood for about a year. Authorities said there were no children were in the home at the time of the woman's death.
