10 hurt in ride crash at Calgary Stampede
CALGARY, Alberta, A ride on which 10 people were hurt at the Calgary Stampede remained closed Saturday, company officials said.

North American Midway Entertainment said in a statement that the manufacturer of the Scorpion has been notified of the accident, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

The Scorpion ride has been inspected in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Saskatchewan and the U.S. states of Florida and Massachusetts. The ride also gets daily inspections by employees, the company said.

At least 10 people were injured -- six seriously enough to be treated in hospitals -- after a pod broke loose Friday night. Dustin Anderson-Sharples, 17, whose hand was broken, said he was taking his third ride on the Scorpion when he felt a "jolt."

He said some of his fellow riders looked like they had been seriously hurt.

"There was a woman on the ground laying down, all she was doing was crying," he said. "She couldn't move her body and then when paramedics arrived, they put her in a neck brace. There was also another dude that was, like, feet on the ground and face on the ground, not moving at all."
