Military plane crashes in Forida forest

GAINESVILLE, Fla., A U.S. military pilot who ejected before his plane crashed in Ocala National Forest in Florida was found alert and conscious by searchers, authorities said.

The pilot was flown to a hospital in Gainesville as a precaution after the Sunday crash and a fire rescue spokeswoman said it was "not a trauma alert," the Gainesville (Fla.) Sun reported.

A resident near the national forest witnessed the crash and called 911. Responding Marion County Fire Rescue crews found the pilot in the far northeastern corner of Marion Country, the newspaper said.

Military personnel from the U.S. Navy Pinecastle Bombing Range in the Ocala National Forest assisted in the search for the pilot.

The Navy drops about 20,000 bombs a year, some of them live, in the bombing range, authorities said.

A state road near the bombing range was closed overnight to keep people out of the area.

It was unclear whether the crash involved a Navy, Air Force or Marine Corps plane, the Sun said.
