Arrest made in Canada missing couple case

MACKAY, Alberta, A man authorities want to question in the disappearance of an elderly Canadian couple was arrested Monday in the MacKay, Alberta, area, authorities said.

Police also searched the rural residence where Travis Vader, 38, was found following a three-day manhunt, the Edmonton Journal reported.

Vader, who was picked up on outstanding warrants, is the only person of interest in the disappearance of Lyle and Marie McCann of St. Albert, who haven't been seen since July 3, the newspaper said.

Don Bulmer, who lives in the home where Vader was apprehended, had told the Journal Saturday Vader had lived with him this spring.

Vader faces at least 17 drug, gun, theft and arson charges related to two incidents. The warrants for his arrest had been issued after he failed to appear in court in June.

Authorities also are looking into whether he had anything to do with suspicious fires that burned a log house, four outbuildings, farm equipment and a truck July 12 near Niton Junction, the Journal said.

The McCanns disappeared while on a road trip in their motor home to Abbotsford, British Columbia, to meet their daughter. The recreational vehicle was found burned at a campground near Edson July 5 and their sport utility vehicle was found in the vicinity Friday.
