Pirates capture Panamanian-flagged ship
NAIROBI, Kenya, A Panamanian-flagged merchant ship with 23 crew members was attacked by Somali pirates Monday, the European Naval Force said in a statement.
"The MV Suez reported being under small arms fire from a pirate attack and minutes later she reported pirates on board," the statement said. "Immediately after the first report a helicopter was directed to the ship but pirates had already taken over the command of the vessel."
The statement said after pirates took control of the vessel it was no longer possible to communicate with it. Crew members were from Egypt, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and India. The ship was hauling cement.
