FENTON, MO —
The sporting world often opens its doors for inspiring stories of success through intense adversity. Larry Monken, 59, is one of those stories. He refused to let the loss of his legs stop him from achieving golf's rarest feat. He contracted a near fatal case of meningitis back in 2002. He survived a coma, but lost both legs below the knees after going into septic shock while unconscious.

The loss of his legs was not the first time he'd faced crisis in his life.

"I've had cancer four times," he told us. "So I've always had to fight for my life as far as my health is concerned. And it always taught me to never give into it... that you fight because every day you live is a plus."
