BIRMINGHAM, AL - She puts on her gloves, fastens her helmet and straps on her H20. Dianne Tripitelli Davis is gearing up for a 1,132 mile ride to Mexico!

"A year ago, I wasn't a cyclist. I just bought this, I hired Tracy, and I said, lets see if we can do this by my 70th birthday, which was October 9th," said Davis.

The 70-year-old Davis is calling it her "Tour de Lectura" or ride for reading. About 25 years ago, she started doing non-profit work in small community in Mexico. The group has built homes, a clinic, a library and a preschool. With this ride, Davis hopes to raise money for a grammar school.

"Because if we can get a grammar school and take those children from preschool all the way through 8th grade, or eventually high school. We can get the next generation able to support themselves," said Davis.

It is a mission for education and independence with a little adventure along the way.

The ride is expected to take 2 to 3 weeks, biking 65-75 miles a day. Davis says there will be some off days to relax and enjoy the ride.
