Several weekend events will pay tribute to those who died in the Fort Hood, Texas, shooting rampage.

Fort Hood, Texas -- The Fort Hood community will kick off a series of events on Friday to mark the one-year anniversary of a shooting rampage that left 13 dead.

The base has planned various events to mark the anniversary, including a moment of silence for the victims of the November 5, 2009, shooting.

The anniversary will include two parts: an invitation-only award ceremony and an afternoon event that will be open to the public.

More than 54 soldiers and civilians whose actions went beyond the call of duty will be honored at the award ceremony. It is expected to draw about 100 family members.

The afternoon ceremony will pay tribute to the victims of the shooting rampage.

On Saturday, the base will host various running events. Participants can either take part in a one-mile run, a 5K run or a half-marathon.

Mile markers of the half-marathon route will have a placard that includes a photo of one of the 13 victims.

The suspect in the shooting, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, allegedly opened fire at a military processing center on base.

In October, the military opened a hearing for the U.S. Army psychiatrist that will determine whether Hasan will be court-martialed, which could potentially lead to the death penalty.

Hasan is accused of killing 13 people and wounding 32. He's paralyzed from the chest down after civilian police shot him during the rampage.

The Article 32 hearing, like a civilian grand jury, will consider the evidence against Hasan and decide whether the case will move forward to a court-martial that could bring the death penalty. Unlike a grand jury, the hearing is open to the public, and both the defense and prosecution can present witnesses and evidence.
