Pentagon announces final Fort Hood reviews

WASHINGTON, -- The U.S. Defense Department Tuesday issued reviews from each branch with recommendations on how to deal with internal threats such as the Fort Hood massacre.
The Services' Final Fort Hood Reviews examine the recommendations included in an independent report titled "Protecting the Force: Lessons Learned from Fort Hood," originally released in January.
The department "places a high priority on implementing recommendations that will strengthen policies, programs and procedures," the Pentagon said in a statement.
"The services' follow-on reviews recommend concrete actions, many which have already been implemented, across a range of issues that all contribute to the safety and health of our military forces. The DoD will track implementation of the various recommendations contained in its final report, focusing particularly on force protection issues."
Army Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is in custody in Bell County, Texas, and faces charges in the Nov. 5, 2009, Fort Hood shooting that left 13 people dead and more than 30 wounded.
