SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - It seems the godfather's son is turning into Big Brother.

Tuesday night, the son of reputed Springfield mob boss Adolfo "Big Al" Bruno hosted an event to help teens in the area.

Commerce High School in Springfield held a volunteer recruitment event at Adolfo's restaurant.

Dawn Rodgers organized the event. She said, “the goal is to keep kids in school, keep them attending on a daily basis towards the goal of graduation. we want to increase the graduation rate and increase the attendance rate.”

Victor Bruno who opened and named the restaurant after his father said he wants to help end the violence in the city any way he can.

Victor Bruno the owner of Adolfo’s Ristorante said, “if it's going to help the kids and violence in Springfield, you know I had a tragedy happen in my family, and anything to prevent that I'm all for it.”

Commerce High school alumni and staff came to pledge their support and they said it was a good location for everyone to meet.

Henry Payne is a Commerce High School alum, he said, “it's downtown, it's in Springfield, the establishment is well known, and when invitations were sent out people knew right where to come and right where to be and as I said it turned out perfect.”

Still even with the goal of improving the city there are reminders everywhere in the restaurant of people with ties to organized crime in the past.
