WHDH-TV - Dogs save girl from fox in Leicester

LEICESTER, Mass. -- Two family dogs stepped in to save a little girl from serious injury when she was attacked by a wild animal.

Angelis Proctor, 4, was walking up to her grandparents’ home when a fox latched onto her.

“That was like the scariest thing ever. To turn around and see this wild animal trying to chew on your kid,” said Proctor's mother, Elena Martinez.

But the family dogs, Callie, a basset hound, and Abbie, a pit bull, came to the rescue and scared it off.

“The fox is coming right up here to get at me, so I throw a hammer at it,” said Keith Delage, who was also attacked by a fox.

The fox stalked Delage at his home on Wednesday morning, and a second time in his garage.

“I turn around, the fox comes running into the garage right after me - teeth flaring, everything. I jumped like a little girl,” said Delage.

Leicester police were able to shoot and kill that animal on Delage’s driveway.

Now two families can be thankful this Thanksgiving for the safety of their children. But it is still turkey on the menu – even for the dogs.

Doctors checked Angelis out and they say she is at no risk of rabies exposure.

The Animal Control Department will test the animal for rabies on Friday, and will reveal the results on Monday.
