A man has been arrested in connection with a woman's stabbing on a busy street outside a Tim Hortons during the morning rush hour Monday.

Adrian Tidd, 57, was on his way to a police station to turn himself in, but was picked up by police, said Const. Tony Vella.

He faces an attempted murder charge, and will appear in court in Toronto in the afternoon.

The arrest comes a few hours after the woman, in her fifties, was stabbed on Yonge Street near Eglinton Avenue East at around 7:45 a.m. ET.

"There's definitely lots of blood in the immediate area," said Vella. "Looks like she was stabbed either in the face or throat area."

The suspect was "out on the roadway. It looked like there was an altercation with this woman where the stabbing took place," said Vella.

The woman was rushed to hospital, and suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The suspect fled the area in a blue Dodge minivan, which was seen travelling westbound on Eglinton Avenue after the stabbing, said Vella.

It is not immediately clear if Tidd was related to the woman. Police have not released her identity.
