WEYMOUTH, Mass. -- School administrators in Weymouth voted Thursday to ban student-teacher friendships on Facebook.
The school committee voted on a policy that keeps teachers from "friending" students on social networking sites.
School officials say there haven't been any problems in the district and they're trying to prevent any misconduct in the future.
"It's really unfortunate that we have to take up such issues and have educators feel limited in their correspondence with students but in today's day and age, we certainly do with all the cyber issues at hand,” said Weymouth Mayor Susan M. Kay.
The policy prohibits personal friendships, but still allows the use of social networking sites as teaching tools.
