A woman holds her month-old baby girl in a Toronto police station shortly after the missing infant was brought to police.

A woman from New York City has been charged with abduction after a month-old girl was taken in west Toronto late Thursday.

Michelle Marie Gopaul, 24, of New York City has been charged with the abduction of a person under 14, police said Friday.

Police were close to issuing an Amber Alert after the parents reported the girl missing around midnight. The child was being taken to a casting call for a movie at 175 Birmingham St. in west Etobicoke.

She was allegedly taken into another room by a woman who never returned.

At around 3 a.m., the baby was brought to a police station in Scarborough by a member of the public whom Toronto police Const. Tony Vella did not identify.

There is no known connection between the baby's family and Gopaul, who was found in the Midland Avenue and Eglinton Avenue East area, police said.

Police have not identified the baby girl or her parents.
