A B.C. First Nation is mourning the death of a young mother, found frozen to death Sunday near New Hazelton, in the province's north.

Police said the 24-year-old woman, a mother of two, appears to have fallen in the snow late Saturday night in -17 C temperatures.

The woman's body was found in daylight about 12 hours later on the Glen Vowell Reserve, about 15 kilometres north of New Hazelton, said RCMP Cpl. Annie Linteau.

Linteau said the investigation has determined that alcohol was likely a contributing factor in her death.

There were no obvious signs of foul play. The extreme weather and lack of warm clothing likely also contributed to her death, police said.

An autopsy toxicology report have been ordered, said Linteau.
