A youth has been charged with multiple firearms offences after a dramatic incident Saturday night in St. Catharines, Ont.

A 49-year-old man was approached by two male suspects while parked around 11 p.m., Niagara Regional Police said.

"One of the suspects was armed with a modified (sawed-off) shotgun, he positioned himself by the driver's door, pointed the gun at the victim's face, and demanded money," police said in a news release.

The driver drove erratically and made his escape without harm, as the armed suspect fired one shot into the car's rear bumper. The driver drove to a police station while the suspects fled.

Police officers arrived at the scene and shortly after midnight, an officer saw two males on Carlton Avenue by Haig Street. Police seized a modified shotgun from one male, which they believe is the gun used to fire the shot at the car.

A 16 year old male, a resident of nearby Welland, was arrested. He cannot be named because of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
