A man with life-threatening injuries walked into hospital in Saskatoon early Saturday morning, the Saskatoon Police Service said.

He was rushed into surgery at St. Paul's Hospital where his condition was stabilized, police said in a release.

The 23-year-old man had been stabbed in a gang-related incident, police believe. The incident "was not a random act of violence."

The man had apparently walked at least 350 metres from the scene of the stabbing to the hospital.

Police were called to the hospital around 3:30 a.m. and located the scene of the stabbing in the 300 block of Avenue T South.

Officers from major crimes and members of the forensic identification unit are investigating.
