A woman who allegedly abandoned her newborn baby in a west Edmonton hotel room was charged Friday under the province's Child, Youth and Family Enhancement Act.

The woman faces one charge of willfully causing a child to be in need of protective services.

The baby, who is reported to be only two days old, was found alone in a room at the Continental Inn on Stony Plain Road Friday morning.

The child was taken into care by Alberta Children and Youth Services and was in good condition.

The mother checked into the hotel earlier on Friday.
