New Glasgow police say they have charged a 14-year-old boy in connection with a phoney bomb threat that led to the evacuation of the local hospital.

Const. Ken MacDonald said the teenager has been charged with mischief, breach of probation and conveying false messages. The boy was arrested on Wednesday night.

Aberdeen Hospital was evacuated Monday after a caller claimed to have planted several bombs in the building.

Everyone at the hospital, including nearly 100 patients, had to be moved to nearby buildings. A few very sick patients were transferred to other hospitals.

Police spent hours searching the building, but found no sign of a bomb and gave the all clear about three hours after the threat came in. The Pictou County Health Authority said police allowed people back in the building at about 1 a.m. Tuesday. The emergency department was reopened at 4:45 a.m.
