A young man who forced his way into a Charlottetown home Thursday morning was scared away by the homeowner, police say.

A woman heard someone banging on her door on Esher Street shortly after 10:30 a.m., police said. But by the time she got to the door, a young man had already forced his way in.

When the man saw someone was home, he took off running towards the Confederation Trail.

Police arrived on the scene shortly after, along with the police dog. There were too many pedestrians on the trail for the dog to get a good scent, police said.

The young man is described as short and stocky, wearing a red hoodie and blue jeans.
