Germany indicts 'third most wanted' Nazi

BERLIN, A man called the third most-wanted Nazi has been charged in Germany with taking part in the killing of 43,000 Jews during the Holocaust, authorities say.

Samuel Kunz, 90, is alleged to have spent 18 months as a guard at the Belzec death camp in Poland, The Jewish Chronicle reported Wednesday.

He is also suspected of murder over "personal excesses" for allegedly shooting 10 Jews in two incidents.

Kunz, listed as No. 3 on the Simon Wiesenthal Center's list of wanted Nazis, has not faced trial before, the newspaper said.

Kunz's indictment in Germany was a "very positive development," a Wiesenthal center spokesman said.

It "reflects recent changes in the German prosecution policy, which have significantly enlarged the number of suspects who will be brought to justice," Dr. Efraim Zuroff said.
