Heat clear salary cap room with OKC trade
MIAMI, (UPI) -- The Miami Heat cleared salary cap space by Wednesday, trading its 18th overall draft pick and guard Daequan Cook to Oklahoma City.

In return, the Heat got the Thunder's 32nd overall pick -- the second pick of Round 2 -- giving Miami four second-round picks and shedding Cook's $2.1 million salary, The Miami Herald reported.

The newspaper said the team is preparing for the free agency period, which begins July 1, and wants more room to maneuver under the league's $56 million salary cap in its bid to re-sign star player Dwayne Wade.

The Heat reportedly are also seeking to trade Michael Beasley in a bid to clear enough salary cap room for up to two more maximum-salary free agents.

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar free agent-to-be LeBron James is on the Heat's shopping list, although some analysts contend the Chicago Bulls have the inside track to sign him, the Herald said.
