Kuchar tops Laird in Barclays playoff

PARAMUS, N.J., -- Matt Kuchar sank a 2-foot birdie putt on the first playoff hole Sunday, downing Martin Laird for the championship of The Barclays.
Kuchar's approach shot on the par-4 18th hole came to within 2 feet of the pin. Laird couldn't convert a long birdie putt and Kuchar rolled in his 2-footer for his third PGA Tour win and second in two years.
Kuchar moved atop the FedEx Cup points list with the win.
He carded a 5-under-par 66 -- the only player to register four rounds in the 60s at Ridgewood Country Club in New Jersey -- finishing regulation at 12-under 272.
Laird, the third-rounder leader, joined him there with an even-par 71. He was forced into a playoff thanks to a three-putt bogey on 18.
Third place was a tie between Steve Stricker (66) and Kevin Streelman (68) at 10-under 274. Rory Sabbatini (64), Vaughn Taylor (69), Ryan Palmer (69) and Jason Day (71) shared fifth place at minus-9.
