Kuwait, Iraq in war of words over border
KUWAIT CITY, The border between Iraq and Kuwait was determined by a United Nations resolution, making it a settled question, the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry says.
The ministry protested a statement Tuesday by an Iraqi diplomat, Gulf News reported.
Qais al-Azzawi, the Iraqi ambassador to the Arab League, said his government does not believe the United Nations has the authority to draw international borders.
The Foreign Ministry summoned the Iraqi ambassador to Kuwait, Mohammed Bahr al-Uloom, and asked him for clarification of al-Azzawi's statement, the Kuwait Times reported Wednesday. He was given a memo to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry.
