My lcd monitor went really dark and makes a hissing sound?

I have a 20" lcd gateway monitor. When I woke up this morning my monitor was dark, I could still see my desktop and every thing, it was just really dark. It is also making a hissing noise. I tried messing with the settings on the computer and the monitor itself. Is there anyway to fix it, or should I just buy a new one?

I'd suggest just buying a new monitor. It may be fixable, but between the cost of labor and replacement parts, It may be smarter to just replace the unit
