Searchers said they found no trace of a missing California woman after they combed a park near her home in Gilroy, Calif.
Martha Gutierrez, 52, has not been seen since Tuesday when her son killed his 11-year-old sister and then himself in the family apartment.
The San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News said about a dozen neighbors and family members braved the wind and rain of Northern California to methodically check Mount Madonna County Park on the assumption Abel Gutierrez had killed her and dumped the body.
"We want her to have some peace," said Elizabeth Nunez, 69, a family friend. "We don't like to think of her laying out here somewhere."
Police have said they found evidence of a shooting inside Abel Gutierrez's vehicle. Friends said Abel suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder stemming from his military service in Iraq and had become increasingly disturbed since returning home.
