Principal reprimanded for prom booze

NEW YORK, New York education officials said a principal was reprimanded for letting chaperons drink alcohol at the prom where a teacher was caught kissing a student.

The city Education Department said Thursday Principal Michael Soet of International High School was reprimanded after he admitted chaperons at the 2009 dance, which was held aboard a yacht, were offered beer and wine and were allowed to buy other alcohol from a cash bar, the New York Daily News reported Friday.

Soet said he was unaware of the policy banning chaperons from drinking but Assistant Principal John Harriman told investigators he warned Soet prior to the event.

Teacher Lindsay Dunaj, a main organizer of the prom, resigned from the district in December for kissing a student on the dance floor during the 2009 prom. The kiss was projected on a TV screen. An investigation determined Dunaj had previously had sex with other student, officials said.
