Scott retains Singapore Open lead
SINGAPORE, -- Adam Scott, looking to regain the title he won in 2005 and 2006, holds a 1-stroke lead after Saturday's play at the European Tour's Singapore Open.
Scott had a 2-under-par 69 in the third round and is at 14-under 199 after 54 holes. He's just ahead of Ian Poulter, the event's defending champion, who shot 68 Saturday and Kang Kyung-nam, who had a third-round 67 despite a double bogey.
Graeme McDowell (68 Saturday) is alone in fourth place at 12-under while Andres Hansen pulled into contention with a 6-under 65 and is in fifth at 11-under.
Poulter, playing in the same group as Scott, put early pressure on with a birdie at No. 2 and an eagle on the fourth hole.
Scott bracketed birdies at 2 and 4 around a bogey at the third hole. He also had a birdie at the seventh hole but a bogey at 10 allowed Poulter, who birdied the hole, to move into the lead.
Poulter fell back into a tie for first with a bogey at 14 and Scott took the outright lead with a birdie at 16.
Kang had consecutive birdies on Nos. 2-4 but was over par on the day after seven holes because of bogeys at 1 and 5 and a double bogie at the par-5 seventh hole. He moved close to the lead, however, with five birdies in his final eight holes.
