Baghdad (CNN) -- Two people were injured when a bomb struck a government convoy in a west-central neighborhood of Baghdad on Wednesday, Interior Ministry officials told CNN.

Abdul Karim Abdullah, deputy human rights minister, escaped injury but two of his bodyguards were hurt in the explosion, which occurred in Mansour, the officials said.

On al-Nidhal, a commercial street in east-central Baghdad, seven civilians were injured by a roadside bomb outside a hospital, Interior Ministry officials said.

Violence in Iraq has dropped dramatically since the peak of the sectarian violence between 2005 and 2007, but attacks, including those against government and law enforcement targets, are still commonplace.
