Toronto driver killed in head-on collision

A Toronto man was killed Saturday night when his car was struck in a head-on collision in the city's east end.

The 55-year-old victim, whose name has not yet been released, was travelling northbound on McCowan Road near Meldazy Drive when his Toyota Camry was struck head-on by an SUV travelling in the opposite direction at about 11 p.m.

The driver of the Camry was not wearing a seatbelt, according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the SUV, a 26-year-old man, was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Police investigators are trying to determine why the SUV crossed into the path of oncoming traffic.

In another accident, north of Toronto, five people were injured in a traffic collision in York region at about 2 a.m. Sunday.

Five people were taken to hospital. Some of the injuries are reported to be serious.

And a 66-year-old man who was struck by a TTC bus last weekend has died of his injuries.

The man was hit by a bus as he was crossing Danforth Road at St. Clair Avenue E. on Dec. 11.

The name of the victim has not been released.
