A former New Brunswick man is dead and another faces charges after a fight early Thursday morning in Red Deer, Alta.

Red Deer City RCMP said 40-year-old William McDonald was found dead when police arrived at a residence in the Fairview area of the central Alberta city after a 911 call shortly before 3 a.m.

An autopsy was expected later Friday, and while police said the exact cause of death hadn't been determined, they also said no weapons were used in the killing.

Martin Munro, a 36-year-old man originally from Miramichi, N.B., has been charged with second-degree murder.

Red Deer City RCMP Const. Chris Kosack said Munro and McDonald had been friends in Miramichi and that the two came out to Red Deer just after Christmas.

Also charged was Jolyn Ten Hove, a 37-year-old Red Deer woman.

Munro and Hove were remanded into custody and are set to appear in Red Deer court on Monday.
