35,000 Scope mouthwash bottles recalled
WASHINGTON, (UPI) -- The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of Scope Original Mint Mouthwash due to a failure of child-resistant caps.

About 35,000 bottles of the mouthwash in 1-liter bottles were manufactured by Procter & Gamble of Cincinnati and sold nationwide from January 2010 through June 2010 for about $4.

The mouthwash contains ethyl alcohol.

The child-resistant lids could malfunction and the bottles lack a label that explains, "This Package for Households Without Young Children," the commission said in a statement.

The recalled bottles have the number 4 printed on the bottom.

Consumers were advised to test the cap. If the cap can be removed by twisting, as opposed to squeezing and twisting, it is not child-proof, the commission said.

Consumers were advised to keep the mouthwash away from children. Consumers who expected the product to be child-proof were also advised to return the mouthwash for a full refund or a replacement coupon.
