4 babies' bodies found in suitcases
NIJ BEETS, Netherlands, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- A Dutch woman is in custody, suspected of killing four of her babies and keeping their bodies in suitcases in an attic, authorities said.

Sky News reported Sunday police started investigating after being told the 25-year-old woman, who lived with her parents in Nij Beets, had been pregnant several times but had no children.

Initially, she allegedly told investigators she had put the children, born between 2002 and this year, up for adoption. She was arrested after she failed to provide documents proving it.

The woman, whose name has not been released, then allegedly told police she was "keeping them" in suitcases in the attic, Sky News said.

How the babies died had not been determined. The woman's parents said they were unaware their daughter had been pregnant.

After an initial court appearance, the woman is being held for 14 days pending further investigation of the case.

Dutch prosecutor Hank Mous told CNN the woman confessed Thursday, the day after her arrest.

"She could not give a good explanation for the disappearance of the babies," Mous said, adding, "She held a big secret to herself for years."

He said authorities were awaiting the results of tests on the newborns' bodies before bringing charges against the woman.
