LITTLE ROCK, Ark., -- An American Airlines jetliner was diverted safely to Little Rock, Ark., Sunday afternoon after a reported engine fire, officials said.
Flight 1720, an MD 80, had been making its way to Washington Dulles International Airport from Dallas-Fort Worth with 136 passengers and five crew members, when the emergency incident occurred at 3:54 p.m.
Little Rock National Airport spokesman T.J. Williams said no fire was found when the aircraft landed at 4:08 p.m., Arkansas Online reported. The aircraft taxied under its own power to an airport rap and then was towed to a gate where mechanics were to go over the it.
Williams told Arkansas Online in an e-mail that American was working to get the passengers to their destination.
