Actor Jeffrey Jones arrested

LOS ANGELES, (UPI) -- The Los Angeles County district attorney's office says actor Jeffrey Jones has been charged with failing to update his registration as a sex offender.

Jones, 63, is best known for his work in the films "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," "Beetlejuice," "Amadeus" and "Sleepy Hollow."

He was ordered in 2003 to register as a sex offender and undergo counseling, and was placed on five years' probation after he pleaded no contest to persuading a 14-year-old boy to pose for nude photographs.

The Los Angeles Times said Jones was arrested June 23 on suspicion of failing to renew his registration with the state of California within five days of his last birthday, Sept. 28, 2009.

He was released on $20,000 bail, the newspaper said Wednesday.

The Times did not say whether Jones explained why he didn't register in a timely manner.
