Residents and campers at a provincial park west of Red Deer are on evacuation alert after a forest fire damaged about 50 hectares of land on Saturday.

Crimson Lake Provincial Park, about 90 kilometres west of Red Deer, was evacuated at about 7:30 p.m. MT after Rocky Mountain House RCMP were advised of the blaze.

The fire was contained by about 10 p.m. MT and residents were allowed back inside their homes. However, police say an evacuation alert remains in effect and residents could be asked to leave again.

The fire did not cause any structural damage but did damage several power lines in the area.
