Arianespace Launches Eutelsat Satellites, Wins EADS Contract for SSOT Launch

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Arianespace launched the Hot Bird 9 and W2M satellites for Eutelsat Communications, Arianespace announced Dec. 20.
Hot Bird 9 was manufactured by Astrium and carries 64 Ku-band transponders, increasing the company’s operational redundancy at its flagship orbital position of 13 degrees East. The W2M satellite, built by Astrium and the Indian Space Research Organization, will operate up to 30 transponders.
Separately, Arianespace won a contract from EADS Astrium to launch the SSOT (Sistema Satelital para Observación de la Tierra) Earth observation satellite for the Government of Chile.
Slated for launch during the first half of 2010, SSOT will be built by Astrium using the Myriade platform, within the scope of a contract awarded by the Chilean government. The satellite will provide Chile with high-quality images for civil and military applications.
