Arrest made in Canadian torture case
EDMONTON, Alberta, A Canadian man has been charged with effectively imprisoning his roommate for more than a year while assaulting him physically and sexually.

Dustin Ward Paxton, 30, was arrested Tuesday in Alberta, the Edmonton Journal reported. He was at a house in Edmonton.

Investigators say the alleged victim, described as a man in his late 20s, went through an ordeal that began in December 2008, soon after he moved from Winnipeg to Calgary to work for a moving company. They say he shared an apartment with Paxton, who worked for the same company.

The victim's family lost touch with him in February, police said, and filed a missing persons report a few weeks later. In April, a man who said he was his cousin left the alleged victim at a hospital in Regina.

Investigators said the man weighed only 90 pounds and appeared to have been beaten severely. His lower lip looked like it had been cut off.

Paxton became the target of a nationwide manhunt after police interviewed his former roommate. He faces charges of aggravated assault, forcible confinement and sexual assault in Alberta and aggravated assault in Saskatchewan.
