As a New Jersey man and his wife, who was entering labor, drove along the Garden State Parkway Monday morning, their incoming baby decided he was not going to wait until they arrived to Valley Hospital in Ridgewood.

Out of time, the anxious couple was forced to pull onto the shoulder of the parkway just near Route 80 at around 6:30 a.m. where they called 911, state police said.

Apparently their baby boy refused to wait for EMS to arrive, and prompted an early delivery. With the closed doors fending off freezing temperatures, the father leaned over from the driver's side to help his wife deliver their child on the passenger side of the family's SUV.

When New Jersey state troopers finally arrived, they found that the father was already holding his newly delivered son wrapped in a winter coat.

The baby reportedly showed perfectly healthy vital signs, and an ambulance arrived to transport the family to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center.

The family is said to being doing well.
