A 12-year-old boy is dead following a scooter crash on a rural acreage west of Calgary.
The boy lost control of the scooter and hit a gate just before 7 p.m. on Saturday. The crash happened on a rural property in Priddis.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that the boy and his parents were visiting the location. The parents were inside the house and no adults were aware the youth was driving the motor scooter. He was not wearing a helmet," RCMP said in a press release.
Paramedics tried to save the boy and an air ambulance arrived, but the child died at the scene.
The boy was from Redwood Meadows, 25 km west of Calgary. His parents asked that his name not be released to the media.
