Canada outlines G20 security plans
TORONTO, (UPI) -- Officials say they have designated foot and traffic security zones affected by the upcoming G20 summit in downtown Toronto.

Authorities outlined security measures Friday ahead of the meeting of world leaders June 26-27 at the Metro Toronto Convention Center, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Workers will construct a security fence 24 hours a day beginning June 7 until completion, said Superintendent Tom Russell, head of G20 planning for Toronto police, and people will be required to pass through checkpoints.

"We know this will be inconvenient to Torontonians and we ask for your patience and understanding during this time," Russell said.

"It is our hope that members of the public will be able to move freely throughout the fence perimeter until the evening of Friday, June 25."

The western part of the fence winds southwards along Windsor Street and Blue Jays Way. The eastern portion runs along Bay Street, east along Front Street West, then south on York Street, the CBC said.

Union Station, the Air Canada Center and the Rogers Center are outside the security fence.

The boundaries of that fence are subject to change, however, Russell said, "and will be communicated to the public as soon as possible."
