Charges have been laid in the deaths of two workers who were electrocuted west of Edmonton two years ago.

Damien McEwen and Jason Banks were killed while raising equipment when it touched an overhead powerline in January of 2009.

Eric Speuhler, Pro-flo Production Separators and TY2K Consulting face a number of charges under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

The charges include failing to ensure the health and safety of a worker, and failing to report results of a hazard assessment.

Barrie Harrison of Occupational Health and Safety said the act allows for serious fines in cases such as this of up to $500,000 per charge.

The first court date is next month in Stony Plain.
