Crowe to direct 'We Bought a Zoo'

LOS ANGELES, (UPI) -- Cameron Crowe has signed on to direct a big-screen adaptation of Benjamin Mee's memoir "We Bought a Zoo," The Hollywood Reporter said.

The film is to be released in December 2011 and will mark Crowe's first movie since 2005's "Elizabethtown."

In addition to directing the movie, Crowe is also rewriting its script, which was initially written by Aline Brosh McKenna, the entertainment industry trade newspaper said.

"Zoo" is based on the true story of how Mee and his family used their life savings to buy a dilapidated zoo in the English countryside.

Crowe's directing credits include "Say Anything," "Jerry Maguire" and "Almost Famous." His screenwriting credits include "Fast Times at Ridgemont High."
