DISH Does (More) HD, Settles with NFL
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Struggling to keep its sub base on board, the DISH Network unveiled a slew of new HD feeds on Friday. Via agreements with MTV and BET, DISH is adding high definition feeds of BET, CMT, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon, Spike TV and VH1 to its line up. All the HD additions except for BET HD will be available via the DISH TurboHD Bronze package while BET HD has joined the TurboHD Silver package. According to a DISH network spokesperson, the package prices (currently at $29.99 and $39.99 per month after a low-price six month introductory period) will not rise.
In other DISH programming news, the DBS provider settled its lawsuit with the NFL Network at the end of last week. While details of the multi-year agreement were not disclosed, the football net will remain on DISH’s second-most distributed programming tier. It had been on DISH’s most populat 100 channel package prior to the NFL’s simulcast of last season’s Patriots-Giants regular season finale via CBS and NBC. Next up on the NFL Net battleground are negotiations with Comcast which could drop the net on May 1.
