ST. LOUIS (AP)—The Los Angeles Dodgers activated left-handed reliever Hong-Chih Kuo(notes) from the 60-day disabled list Monday in time for the opener of a four-game series against the Cardinals.

Kuo had been on the DL since May 2 with a left elbow strain and replaces infielder Blake DeWitt(notes), who was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. Manager Joe Torre planned to ease Kuo into the setup role he held last year while going 5-3 with a 2.14 ERA and one save.

The 28-year-old Kuo is 1-0 with a 6.75 ERA in seven appearances this season.

DeWitt was optioned to Albuquerque for the fifth time. He’s mainly been used as a replacement at second, third, and shortstop and was batting .156 with one home run in 23 games.
