Eagles' Sims fined $50K for dangerous hit
PHILADELPHIA, -- Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Ernie Sims has been fined $50,000 for a dangerous hit delivered during a game last month, the NFL said Wednesday.
Sims was cited for his actions in the Eagles' Oct. 24 contest against the Tennessee Titans during which he hit Titans receiver Lavelle Hawkins.
The linebacker was fined for "unnecessarily striking a defenseless receiver in the neck and head area with his forearms," a league spokesman told the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The stiffness of the fine could be related to the NFL's recent crackdown on dangerous hits to the head. Sims is also a repeat offender, having been fined in 2008 and 2009 for unnecessary roughness while playing for Detroit.
