Federer, Fish to meet in Cincinnati final
CINCINNATI, Roger Federer will meet Mardy Fish in the finals of the Western & Southern Financial Group Masters after both took semifinal matches Saturday.
Third-seeded Swiss superstar Federer had little trouble breezing past Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, in a match that lasted only 70 minutes in Cincinnati.
Much more surprising was the performance of American wild card Fish, who struggled but eventually overcame American Andy Roddick in the early rain-slowed semifinal matchup 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1.
Roddick, who won this event in 2003, seemed poised for a straight-set win, racing out to a 5-2 lead in the second frame before rain halted action for a second time.
But Fish then took over, forcing a second-set tiebreaker before cruising to a 3-0 lead in the final set en route to the victory.
