Flu forces Thatcher to miss birthday party

LONDON, -- A bout with flu forced former British Prime Minister margaret Thatcher to miss her 85th birthday party Thursday at her former home, 10 Downing Street.
Prime Minister David Cameron, like Thatcher a Conservative who ended a period of Labor dominance, entertained the other guests, who included several prominent members of Thatcher's governor and the current one, The Independent reported. He promised another party for Thatcher once she recovers.
Thatcher turned 85 Wednesday and planned to spend the day quietly.
The first, and so far only, woman prime minister in Britain, Thatcher served from the general election in May 1979 until her resignation in late 1990. After her departure, she was honored with a peerage and is now formally known as the Baroness Thatcher.
She has been in frail health in recent years and has suffered several minor strokes. She was briefly hospitalized in 2008.
