Force Protection Inc. to upgrade Cougars
LADSON, S.C., (UPI) -- Force Protection Inc. will modify the U.S. Marine Corps Cougar mine-resistant vehicles in Iraq and Afghanistan under a $15.4 million contract.

The South Carolina company said the contract provides for 43 field service representatives and additional field service support for the modifications and general maintenance.

"Recognizing the critical importance of this asset in its long-term operational strategy, the Marine Corps is continuing its comprehensive program to enhance the Cougar fleet with the latest technologies to ensure success in the field," Ray Hutcherson, chief operating officer of Force Protection said. "We take pride in offering the warfighter a unique and proven solution that has saved countless lives, and we look forward to further supporting our customer's ongoing initiatives."

Force Protection said installation of modification kits would be completed by June 2011.

The Cougar is an armor-protected vehicle used by Marines for transporting troops and their supplies and comes in 4x4 and 6x6 models.
